Copper from Germany
Copper is one of the central raw materials of the future and the key to digitalization, electromobility, renewable energies and numerous other future technologies. Demand will therefore continue to rise significantly. Forecasts indicate that demand for electromobility alone will grow by around 800% in the 2020s.
Global Cooper Supply Scenarios and demand
Conventional car with combustion engine: 23 kg copper
Hybrid e-car: 39 kg of copper
Plug-in hybrid: 60 kg copper
Fully electric e-car: 83 kg of copper
Independence through domestic production
Today, most copper comes from South America, China and Africa. Germany is 100 percent dependent on imports for primary materials. However, the crises of recent years have clearly shown that we in Europe need to become less dependent on raw material imports. The European Commission's Critical Raw Materials Act clearly shows that domestic raw material extraction should once again become more of a focus and be developed into an important pillar of the European raw material supply. We want to make an important contribution to this with the copper we extract in Lusatia.
